Pillola-Pill #99:

Ci sono alcune cose a cui il viaggio in Arizona mi ha fatto pensare: 1) mi manca una città, grande o piccola che sia ho bisogno di vivere una dimensione metropolitana e non da villaggio di Hansel e Gretel; 2) semmai ci fosse una riprova dell’emergenza del cambio climatico, i 26 gradi a febbraio di Phoenix ne sono una prova; 3) con massima tristezza ammetto che il mio corpo si è abituati ai ghiacci eterni di Syracuse tanto che a Phoenix stavo male mentre  a Syracuse mi sono subito ripresa…

 

There are few things that the trip to Arizona made me think about: 1)I miss a city, small o big doesn’t matter, but I really need to live in a urban dimension and not an Hansel and Gretel’s village one; 2) if any other proof was required to recognize that climate change is an emergency, the 26C° in February in Phoenix say a lot; 3) sadly enough, I admit that my body is now used to the perennial ices of Syracuse so that if in Phoenix I felt sick, once in Syracuse I’ve immediately recovered…

Pillola-Pill #98:

Che l’Arizona fosse come mi immaginavo il Far West è quasi scontato da dire. Ma la visita nel finto villaggio western ha davvero superato ogni aspettativa: tori meccanici, finte prigioni e, ovviamente, negozio di souvenir (che si sa nel Far West erano molto popolari…). A concludere il tutto, un terribile spettacolo di cowboys che però, in una stanza piena di Fulbrighters da tutto il mondo, si sono visti contestati in tutto quello che dicevano e facevano. Alla fine mi hanno pure fatto un pò pena….

 

That Arizona was like I imagined the Far West is almost crystal clear. But the visit to a fake western village was beyond any imaginable expectation: mechanic bulls, prisons and, clearly,  a souvenir shop (that as you all know, in the Far West were very popular…). Cherry on top,  the show of two fake cowboys who, however, in a room full of Fulbrighters from all over the world, have been contested in everything the tried to say and do. In the end, I felt somehow sorry for them…

Pillola-Pill #97:

Piccole considerazioni sparse sul mio arrivo in Arizona: 1) il volo per Chicago rientra nel guinness dei primati per le dimensioni dell’aereo…per fortuna però l’essere bassa si rivela utile in queste circostanze; 2)non ho mai capito perchè le persone nei video sulle procedure di sicurezza degli aerei sembrino deliziati dal’ipotesi di un disastro aereo: non appena compare la maschera di sicurezza subito grandi sorrisi, per non parlare della gioia che sembrano provare quando indossano un giubbotto salvagente; 3)il deserto, già a vederlo dall’alto, mi ha fatto sentire subito caldo…

Few considerations about my arrival in Arizona: 1) to go to Chicago (our first stop) we flew on a the smallest airplane on earth…luckily enough, being short is pretty useful in these situations; 2) I’ve never understood why people on the security procedures’ videos appear delighted by the idea of an air crash…as soon as they see the oxygen mask they immediately smile with satisfaction, not to say how much joy they seem to feel when they have to wear a life vest;3) only by seeing the desert from the plane, I’ve immediately felt hot…
